A powerful tool I have been using
for sometime now is called
Amazon Web Services
http://aws.amazon.com/
Imagine having thousands of computers
just like google - where each one
backed up the other and when
someone accessed your data
from your website - it was
in reality pulling it from the
closest Amazon computer.
What happens is your graphics load faster
Your Videos stream fast and quick
This results in your website loading
amazingly quick.
And the best part is it is
ridiculously cheap.
Last Month On one of my websites where I
Am using Amazon s3 which has
hundreds of video file downloads
and thousands of image files downloaded
using 1182 GB (gigbytes)
my cost? $3.97
Yes I said ridiculously cheap……
So upside is my websites images and videos
load quicker
Downside - it cost me $3.97
Now, I wanted to also use this for my members
area to download software, special reports,
and other “Paid Area” type of products
The problem was my s3 download link was
exposed - leaving open the very real possibility
of those paid product links being shared - or
worse yet - posted on some forum.
To overcome this issue I built software
that creates a download.php file that
conceals the s3 urls and uses a link
that would appear the file is coming
directly from my website
And for added security - if that download
link is shared and someone tries to use it,
that person does not get access and is instead
sent to my homepage/salespage.
If you are not using
Amazon Web Services - I suggest you might
want to check into it.
And if you want a slick way of
concealing your Amazon download urls
Get a copy of my S3Downloader.
