Your Online Business
In keeping with the theme I started last week, which was to explain in detail that creating a profitable online business is not as difficult as many people try to make it. Profitable online businesses are dependent on three parts - the website/product, driving interested visitors to that website, and converting those visitors into paying customers.

As I have gone over the fact the resale products are the easiest way to get started - let us for a moment assume you have your product and you have put together a sales page. What happens next - when the customers says?

Payment Processor - Buy Buttons
By far the simplest route to go when determining what company or process to use for your website’s “money handler” is to examine the ease of use and ability to cut and paste your buy buttons. With over 100 million members, Paypal is the largest and most commonly accepted payment processor. Add to that the fact that with your Paypal business account - visitors can pay with any of the major credit cards, and not even be a Paypal member - this provides the greatest reach to buyers.

You will want to have a business Paypal account to sell products from your website. You can obtain a Paypal business account here: http://www.reviewsbyray.com/paypal Once you have your business account you can login - and select “Merchant Services” and then create your unique buy buttons by completing a simple form. You will want to select the encrypted version (no need to buy software for that) and you will need to specify what page you want your visitor to return to after a successful money transaction. This Merchant Services/create a buy button form will provide you with the html that you need to cut and paste into your website where you want your buy button.

Paypal does allow for quite a bit of flexibility in payments, with everything from buy now, to trial offers, shopping cart, and even subscription payments. While you could instead of using paypal - go get yourself what is known as a merchant account and then use that to ac-cept cre-dit c-ar-ds on your website - you will end up paying with a merchant account basically the same transaction fees as paypal ~3% - however with a merchant account you will also pay an additional $50-60/mo in banking fees - whether you sell anything or not. For this reason alone -Paypal is the way to go - particularly when you are starting out.

So Paypal makes the money collection part of your website easy - Signup for a Business PayPal account, http://www.reviewsbyray.com/paypal , fill out the buy button form, and cut and paste the code into your website

Automate Your Business
I was visiting with a associate on the phone this week when I told him that anytime I have to do the same thing six times or more -I go build software to do it for me. While Andy got a kick out of that, the point is when doing business online you want to automate as much as possible. When your visitor likes your product and purchases - they do not want to wait - they want the product NOW! - In their mind they paid you the money - and regardless of the time of day - it your turn to deliver the product.

But hey - no big deal - especially with digital products such as E-Books and software. Remember when I mentioned above you specify the url or website where the buyer will go after a successful Paypal transaction - So you only need to send the buyer to a page that has the download link to the product you just sold them.

But Wait - Not So Fast!
While you could use the above technique and be fine, that is not what you want to do for a couple of reasons.
1- Once a visitor buys from you once - there is a very good chance they will buy from you again - So you want to have that visitor signup to your auto-responder or email service. That way you can send them other information or marketing emails in the future

2- The other reason you do not want to send them directly from Paypal to your download page is that all that person would need to do is post that download url on a forum or two and the next thing you know you are giving away copies of the e-book or software to people who never paid - the worst part is unless you saw in your logs - you would never know it is happening.

So a Couple of “Rules” To Sell By
1-Set your Paypal return page to an un-guessable url - something other then /thanks.html - you would be better to have a url such as /4hn8df.html or even make a separate directory on your host account such as /3enbcy9/thanks.html

2-Capture the buyers Name and email address on the return page from Paypal - using a easy to setup form from a service such as Aweber. http://www.reviewsbyray.com/aweber
You can then setup your aweber account so when the visitor clicks on the confirm link in the email that is sent to them - they then end up at the download page.

3-Regarless of your method -download pages should also be a un-guessable url
